order/placing number on an index card at the finish line and will give the coach after their race.
Coaches, please write your athlete's first/last name and your team name on the post-it/sticky pad
colored paper (given to you at the coaches meeting). Stick the post-it/sticky note colored paper to the
placing card your athlete gives you after their race. Turn in BOTH the placing card and the post-
it/sticky note colored paper to the Shelter inside scoring area as soon as you are able after each race
so scoring can be completed ASAP throughout the meet.
SCORING: Varsity/JV Varsity
Each school varsity teams will earn a team score for their top 4 fastest skiers.
We will determine the team scores by converting each varsity skiers finish time (minus their wave start time) into an overall race finish placement position. We will then add each schools (4) team member’s highest scores together.  Highest (4) accumulative score wins 1st place = 100 points, 2nd place = 99 points, 3rd place = 98 points, etc....

Yes! So Good!

Such a great practice today everyone. Let's roll this momentum into the second half of the season. So many positives today during the Time Trial.
Energy levels were up even though the sun wasn't;) Warm up loops at dawn as the Powder Bump loomed over us. Big winds curled down and buffeted us at the base, but all that fresh corduroy warmed the soul.
I loved the commitment on the down hill step turn drills! Nothing like laughing at your teammates as their carcass rolls down the hill from a poorly executed step turn. You have to check your pride at the door and go for it.

I hope everyone feels better because you looked better. Can I dare say we looked like a ski team today;)

Thanks everyone! I'm still smirking and holding back laughs when I think of Mitchell's step turn run thing and all snow clad skiers picking themselves off the deck. You guys are awesome.

I'm checking out till Tuesday. Need to get my real snow fix! Peggy will be sending out e-mails regarding practices, maybe Friday and Monday. Make time to get out and ski at Riverside (man made loop) or the Northloop. Don't lose the gains you've made.

Happy New Year!

Thursday (Ski trip & Winter Break Notes)

Winter Solstice, Picture, Secret Santa, ski day. It sounded overwhelming but you guys knocked it out. They were small gifts but the thoughtful gestures to your teammates were huge. I think the Teams best gift was Tennessee shaving, I hope his Secret Santa put a little after shave in his goodie bag;) This weeks lesson: we all bring value to this Team. Thank you for being such great individuals. Your character is as important as physical skill.
The snow is slow and sloppy but don't let the negatives set in. Find the positives and enjoy tomorrow's ski!

I need to know who's going on the ski trip by tomorrow! You should have received an e-mail with some basic info. I need a yes or no as to whether you are going by tomorrow.

Winter Break Notes: Brainerd race is scheduled for Thursday the 29th. I was thinking about having a ski wax pot luck Wednesday night. Race flyer will go up tomorrow. First day back from break we also have a race in St. Cloud.

Depending on our snow situation I was planning to set up some informal ski practices over break, if you can make you can make. Friday, Monday, Tuesday mornings. More details to come...

Normally we wax before races but not this time. I just can't give up a great day on the trails to wax.
Conditions should be primo! Let's make the most of the day. I want everyone to go into the race confident they have the skills to compete or complete their race.

Tuesday

Monday Lessons:
1. It's cold out.
2. Skiing is hard work.

The thin snow cover and cold temps make learning to ski very challenging. Thanks for all your patience during instruction and keeping a smile while practicing today.

When temps are this cold we can't stand around. If you ski you will stay warm. If your cheeks were stinging don't be afraid to put a little Vaseline on them:)

I did just receive 10 new Tech buffs/neck warmers. Let me know if you're interested they are $20.

Reminder try not to ski on or near any of the sidewalks or concrete walk ways. You could cause some major damage to your skis. Walk skis to the trail and clip in there. Try avoiding sticks and dirt spots as well.

I want everyone to think about the Goals they wrote down Friday. You need to be open to change and feeling uncomfortable to affect growth. Let's get out of those old ruts!

"As a single footstep will not make a path on the earth, so a single thought will not make a pathway in the mind. To make a deep physical path, we walk again and again. To make a deep mental path, we must think over and over the kind of thoughts we wish to dominate our lives." Henry David Thoreau

-I'm expecting race details tomorrow. Will update as soon as possible. It does sound like a short race due to snow conditions.

-Parent Dessert Night tomorrow

-Belling Ringing Saturday 12-2, Coburn's on Cooper

Race Update

I was just informed by the Race Host we will be having a race this Thursday at Riverside Park.
Details still to come. There was uncertainty with the amount of snow and cold but things look like they will be a go.

Sunday, December 11, 2016

Monday

Snow, a little thin but we'll take it.

There will be a bus leaving Tech at 3:45 tomorrow if you're not driving. (door 7 same as before.)
Please change before the ride to Riverside. This way when you get there we can immediately start skiing.
Please inform your parents they will have to pick you up  at Riverside.
Since the school pulled our ski room from us please find a friendly place to stash your skis for the day. You can put them in Andrea's room in the Activities Office as well.

Parent Social Tuesday, 6:30. Check e-mail for details.

Looking forward to tomorrow:)

Friday

Friday we will be a recovery day. Light run take shake out today's effort. "Bring warm clothing" will now be the norm. Back indoors for the remainder.

This has been one of the toughest starts to a winter I've seen in 6 years. No snow, then no snow with cold can be a deal breaker. Thank you all new skiers for keeping the faith. Skiing is and will be everything you were sold on! You will, we will all have those moments of great skiing. When we get those chances to ski let's appreciate them, not take them for granted. We've grown stronger physically but lets continue to be mentally strong as we prepare to ski and race.

There is s s s ssnow in the forecast, keep your fingers crossed and do a snow dance if you haven't! The many forecast also show bitter cold going into next, if you've been waiting to invest in windproof outer layers or a good base layer this may be the weekend to do that.

Meet outside room 41/boys locker room.

See everyone tomorrow. You guys rock!

Thursday

Split Team tomorrow.
We will have a roller ski group meeting at Beaver Island Fed Ex parking lot at 3:45.

-The race scheduled for Thursday has been CANCELLED.
-We will be bell ringing Saturday Dec. 17th 12-2 at Cooper Ave Coborn's.

Tuesday, December 6, 2016

Wednesday

Updates:
-The race scheduled for Thursday has been CANCELLED.
-We will be bell ringing Saturday Dec. 17th 12-2 at Cooper Ave Coborn's.
-The team will now meet in the hallway by room 41. (outside boys locker room)
-All backpacks and clothing need to be stored in the locker room. Bring a lock.

Great work today everyone. Today was a great example of training as a Team. Something that may seem miserable in harsh conditions becomes quite tolerable. We all push ourselves and limits individually, but together as a group. Together we each become stronger!
Today and tomorrow the weather is as bad as it can get. If we can train outside in this we're set for the winter:)

No roller skiing tomorrow! Everyone just bring running shoes, we'll start outside and finish back in.

Ian's black down puffy jacket went missing today. If you grabbed it by mistake please bring to practice tomorrow. Thanks Much.

Monday, December 5, 2016

Tuesday

UPDATE: Anyone rolling skiing should bring running shoes as well. If it does snow we may not be able to roller ski. Dress warm the winds a howl'n!

Tomorrow you'll get that first cold sting to the lungs:) Dress warm and shed layers as the intensity increases. We will return indoors for the second half of practice. If you have roller skis bring them, otherwise running shoes will do.

If you have an equipment form please have your  parents sign and return, I'm missing 10!

Thanks to everyone who made it out today. Nothing like a little slop for roller skiing and running. The poor weather only increases the appreciation for the effort when finished. Put newspaper in your shoes and ski boots. Mini Barkley for the running crew, so many little adventures are all around, you just need to be open to finding them!

Thanks Everyone! Looking forward to tomorrow.

Sunday, December 4, 2016

Monday, 5th

We will be having practice Monday from 2-3:30pm. We will meet at the Beaver Island parking lot near FedEx on Clearwater Road. You can park on roads near the parking lot because of limited spots.
Anyone with roller skis bring them, even if you don't have poles!! All other students will be doing a trail run. Bring a compass;)

This next week will be the toughest week of the winter! Not necessarily because of workload but due to the conditions. The forecast calls for temps in the teens with bitter winds and no snow. Dressing properly will be important to your enjoyment outside later this week. We are all craving snow and time on skis but still need to maximize fitness these early weeks. This week will be similar to last as we mix outdoor and indoor fitness. The snow will come, or at least we can start making it in the cold:) Stay positive! We still have two months of skiing ahead of us.

Still need volunteers for concessions (3 students and a parent to supervise) Tuesday the 6th 6-9. Let me know if you can help!

See everyone tomorrow.

Thursday, December 1, 2016

Friday

We'll mix indoor/outdoor work again. Pack the SPF, small chance of sun.

Concessions were a success tonight! One ski wax session covered! Need three more student volunteers next Tuesday. Let me know if you can lend a hand.
